Multi Axis Abrasive Cutting
The Edge X5 mid rail and high rail, 5-axis waterjets now feature our breakthrough abrasive cutting system: the Permalign Arrow SL. The Permalign Arrow SL is a 5-axis cutting package that can tilt and rotate an ultra-high pressure (UHP) water stream to cut bevels up to 60 degrees, taper-free in a wide variety of materials. Its unique Straight Line (SL) technology produces the highest cut finish quality, the fastest activation speeds in high cycle environments, and the lowest maintenance cost.
The Arrow SL’s cutting head is controlled by two servomotors mounted to the z-axis that can tilt and rotate the cutting head. The servomotors allow the required support systems (UHP water, abrasive supply tubing, and pneumatic control tubing) to be routed through the center of the servomotors.

Compact Abrasive Cutting Head Assembly
The Arrow SL cutting head delivers the ultra-high pressure generated water stream directly to the cutting surface without any bends and is installed on all Jet Edge 5-Axis abrasive motion systems effective February 2024. The Permalign Arrow SL, Compact Abrasive Cutting Head combines abrasive with the UHP water to produce a focused abrasive-water stream to cut dense materials. The UHP water stream passes through an orifice into a mixing chamber and creates a vacuum that helps draw the abrasive into the mixing chamber. The mixed abrasive/water jet stream passes through a nozzle to be directed against the material being cut.

Improved Cut Finish Quality
The Cutting Head Assembly’s straight line design directs the high pressure abrasive stream to the cutting surface without bends. The cutting pressure measured at the cutting point has increased and now delivers higher pressure and better cut finish quality.
Faster Activation Speeds
In high cycle environments, the cutting head is activated very briefly with high pressure water and then stopped. The compact, straight line design shortens the travel distance from the actuator to the cutting head and with no bends activates quickly.
Reduced Maintenance Costs
High pressure water eventually fatigues the parts it comes into contact with and requires an assembly rebuild. By eliminating the right angle bend, the time between rebuilds is drastically increased and the rebuild process is simplified, shortening the time it takes and improving the alignment of the rebuild.
